杜巴指"皇宫",而杜巴广场(即皇宫广场)就是旧皇宫的所在地,所以认识尼泊尔首先从杜巴广场开始。尼泊尔现有3个杜巴广场:加德满都杜巴广场、帕坦杜巴广场和巴特岗杜巴广场。十五世纪,三个马拉王各自为政,在这三座古城分别建了一个杜巴广场。3个杜巴广场风格相似,但又有各自的特色和味道。加德满都杜巴广场建于17~18世纪,是尼泊尔王室的正统皇宫,是3座皇宫广场中最小也是最精美的,集中了加都古建筑精髓。它比起其他两个城市的杜巴广场稍嫌热闹和拥挤,但是非常生活。杜巴广场是欣赏尼泊尔寺庙建筑的好地方。广场上囊括了尼泊尔16-19世纪之间修建的50多座寺庙和宫殿,大多数的建筑在1934年的大地震中受到严重破坏后得到重建。整个广场于1979年被列入联合国人类文化遗产名录。
杜巴广场区由三个分散的广场组成。位于广场西面的主区聚集着许多寺庙,主要有哈努曼猴神宫、库玛丽寺、纳拉扬神庙、湿婆神庙、湿婆—巴瓦娣庙屋、普拉塔布马拉国王雕像、库里须那寺等。在东北部的是杜巴广场的副区,那里有皇宫旧址的入口。向东北方向延伸的一片开阔地带叫Makhan 街,它曾经是加德满都的交通要道,现在已经成为一条很有名的步行街。最南边的是Basantaput广场,是卖各种纪念品的市场,有时还举办各类大型活动。广场的东边是著名的奇异街(Freak Street),这是20世纪60-70年代西方嬉皮士的乐园。杜巴广场紧邻泰米尔区,沿着新街步行10分钟即到。众多承载着历史和传奇的神庙,在寺庙前虔诚朝拜的印度教徒,在广场上悠闲地散步的鸽子,以及一个个托钵走过的蓬发沧桑的苦行僧……杜巴广场上总能让你体会到加都浓郁古老而多彩的历史和宗教氛围。
Kathmandu Durbar Square , also known as Hanuman Dhoka square is one of the major attractions in Kathmandu Valley.This massive complex is home to palaces, temples and courtyards.The major festivals include Indrajatra, Dashain, Gaaijatra, Machchhindra-nath jatra ets. These are the occasion when the people from all over the city gather here to mark their centuries old traditions. Originally a community hall, Kasthamandapa eventually became a temple dedicated to Gorakhnath. It is named after this temple.This temple is one of the major tourist attractions too. The Durbar Square is actually made up of two sub-areas. The outer complex is renowned for numerous interesting temples as Kumari Ghar , Kasthamandap , Shiv-Parbati Temple, Jagannath Temple, Big Bell while the inner complex comprises the old palace area ,Hanuman-dhoka and its courtyards as Nasal Choke ,Mul Choke ,Sundari Choke, Basantapur Durbar and other. The carving and architecture in this area are exceptionally fine which make the architecture in this Hanuman-dhoka Durbar square among the most important sights for travelers to see.They are built in the pagoda style embellished with intricately carved exteriors as well as . The whole complex is also known as Kathmandu Durbar Square ,which is Located at the heart of ancient city . It is srounding both Hindu and Buddhist temple. the buildings we see here date from 15th to 18th century . At the southern end of the Durbar Square there is the Kumari Chowk.The living Goddess, Kumari, is a young girl who is chosen from the Shakya community through an ancient and mystical selection process to become the human incarnation of Hindu Goddess, Taleju.You would be able to see a Kumari House, where the Living Goddess of Nepal resides. The another attraction you would see is the Manju Deval. This triple story temple is dedicated to the god Shiva and was constructed in 1692.Another interesting religious site to see is Kasthamandap. According to legend this structure was built using wood from a single tree.
